Sports Gala

Starting at 7:00 pm on December 19th, the Municipality of Portimão once again honors the local champions, publicly recognizing and rewarding the merit of athletes, coaches and sports clubs and associations that stood out in the 2023/24 sports season and raised the name of the municipality, both on the national, regional and international scene.

The event organized by the Municipality of Setúbal, of consecration and recognition of sporting merit in various spheres of action and activity, takes place from the Portimão Arena, starting at 19:00 pm, and can be followed by the public at a distance.

In this 23rd edition of the Sports Gala, restricted to the winners and held as part of the celebrations of the City Day, 748 athletes, 71 coaches, from 42 sports clubs, schools and universities and practitioners of 43 different sports will be distinguished.

On the occasion, the Municipality of Portimão will recognize three personalities with the Sports Merit Award: Custódio Moreno, for his dedication, professionalism and impetus he gave to sport in the Algarve as regional director of the IPDJ – Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth; and Yolanda Hopkins and Miguel Nascimento, for their paths and examples as high-performance athletes, which led them to be at the highest level at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, contributing decisively to the development of Portuguese, Algarve and Portimonense sport.
