Wine - Visit Portimão

The Guide

The wines produced in the Portimão wine-growing region are of very high quality. Not only is the region’s southern location beneficial but the vines grow in a south-facing amphitheatre that is sheltered from the cold north winds by the protective barrier of the Monchique Mountains. The Portimão region has the perfect climate for the vines.
The Algarve’s wines, and especially those from the Portimão region, are typically smooth, low in acidity and with a good percentage of alcohol thanks to the generous sunshine.
The reds are well-defined in colour, velvety and full-bodied with a fruity aroma and low acidity. They have a defined ruby colour that acquires a topaz tint as the wine ages.
The whites have an open straw colour and are delicate and smooth.
